Clare continues to do well. She's breathing on her own, albeit the erratic breathing of a preemie. Nonetheless, her blood oxygen level stays high, and that's the most important part. Yesterday her IV was replaced by a more permanent PICC line straight into her aorta. This way she won't need to have IV lines replaced. Since she's too little to eat on her own, she's being fed through a tube that goes through her nose to her stomach. Clare's under a light to help her process waste material from her cells and to prevent jaundice. Because they want to maximize the amount of time she spends under the light, we didn't get to hold her Wednesday (May 28). Once her digestion kicks in and she passes the meconium, they think she will be able to process her cells' waste material better and she won't need light therapy. Then we can do kangaroo care again, and that's the best part.

Tim and I both changed her diapers yesterday. This is one job I never thought I'd look forward to. Now this simple act is an absolute joy.
