In the NICU

After she was born, Clare spent her first few days of life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Tacoma General Hospital.

She was so tiny! Because preemies are easily overstimulated, and because she couldn't have milk right away, we were limited on how long we could hold her to 20 minutes twice a day. She also received mutiple hours of photo therapy a day to break up her bilirubin and reduce her jaundice.
At first, she had a nasal canula feeding her room air at slightly higher pressure, but the staff removed that after a day. They also started feeding her formula and breast milk.
